Cymru Alliance
29 September 2007
Glantraeth 0 Buckley Town 1
Report by Jeff Scott

Glantraeth Football Club will be glad to see the back of the month of September.

Not a single point was picked up in the League and the Bodorgan based club have tumbled down the table to occupy the unfamiliar spot of third from bottom. An early exit from the Welsh Cup was also a disappointment for the boys. But as they say the only way is up and I am sure our fortunes will soon turn around. We just need a lucky break.

The fixture today against Buckley Town a couple of seasons ago would have been billed as a top two game as it is both teams are in transition with many new faces in both of the squads. There is a long way to go and as we know in the Cymru Alliance League any team is capable of beating any team on the day.

First chance for Glan in the game came as Rob Williams won a corner from which Gareth Owen shot over the bar, and as the home team pressed Alan Dawson saved cleared at the foot of the post from Owen before a Saxon header went wide from a Kevin Roberts free kick. Paul Rowlands tried his luck but put the effort over the bar. The home side were producing some good football without actually putting away the final effort. In the 29Th minute from a corner Emyr Rowlands was pushed in the back, the official awarded a penalty, and Kevin Roberts hit a shot which keeper Dave Vickers got a hand to to tip onto the crossbar, before being cleared off the goal line. Emyr Rowlands and then Gareth Owen then had two good chances before a header from Kevin Roberts rattled the crossbar. A good first half by the home side but they were unable to produce any goals.

At the start of the second period Rowlands had another good chance from a header from Saxon's cross but it went wide of the post, before Mark William's found an opening for the visitors, a move broke down and Glantraeth lost the ball Williams cut in and from just outside the 18 yard box hit a shot that Gareth Hughes unsighted could not prevent going into the net to make it 0-1. Glantraeth's response was a snapshot from Saxon and a swerving effort from Paul Rowlands going close. Buckley then went close with a header from Miles Todd which was tipped over by Gareth Hughes. Buckley were playing with confidence but like Glantraeth they could not find the final touch. In a final flurry Richard F. Owen almost played Saxon in and Alan Jones had a header well saved by Vickers.

Glantraeth: Gareth Hughes, Jon Peris Jones, Darren Jones, Llion Davies, Gareth Owen (Nigel Barry 81), Richard F Owen, Rob Williams, Chris Saxon, Emyr Rowlands (Alan Jones 81), Kevin Roberts (Osian Pritchard 86), Paul Rowlands.
