Glantraeth 4 Guilsfield 2
Report by Stan Strickland

Glantraeth gained a fourth successive victory as they comfortably overcame Guilsfield at a windswept Cae Trefdraeth. The Anglesey side went ahead after just 8 minutes as a perfectly delivered cross from Paul Rowlands just evaded Chris Saxon but not Gerallt Jones who slid in at the far post to force the ball home. Rowlands was again involved three minutes later as he cut in from the left before letting fly and bring a full length save from Guils’ keeper Dave Littleford.

Glan should have gone two goals ahead on 12 minutes as Guilsfield failed to deal with a corner kick from the left and after Gerallt Jones’ first effort had been blocked the ball fell nicely for Sion Parry whose shot lacked nothing in power but flew wide of the mark. A minute later it was 2-0 with Paul Rowlands again involved as his cross was controlled by Paul Tilbury who laid the ball off for Gerallt Jones to beat two defenders before slamming the ball into the net for his eighth goal of the season.

Gerallt Jones came close to a hat-trick as the Bodorgan boys continued to play some great stuff , Chris Saxon having a shot saved from a Gareth Wyn Roberts’ cross and Jones pouncing on the loose ball to fire narrowly wide. Emyr Rowlands put in a long distance effort that drifted over then Saxon headed against a post before a third goal on the half-hour mark as Paul Tilbury converted from close in following a Paul Rowland’s corner.

35 minutes had gone before Guilsfield’s first effort on goal, a tame effort from Tim Nunnerley that left keeper OJ Roberts with an easy save but the same player did better a minute later as Darren Jones did brilliantly to cut out his dangerous ball into the box.

Leading scorer Jonathan Peris Jones came on from the bench at the start of the second period in place of the injured Saxon and immediately had a great opportunity to add a fourth, taking a tremendous pass from Paul Rowlands in his stride before blasting over but he did get on the scoresheet on 56 minutes as another Rowlands’ cross had Guils defender Glenn Evans in all kinds of trouble, Peris Jones taking advantage with a shot lifted into the top corner.

Out of the blue Guilsfield pulled a goal back on 66 minutes as Darren Jones was adjudged to have been guilty of a trip in the area and Simon Edwrads put away the spot kick.

With the weather deteriorating Glan found themselves playing into a gale force wind during the final quarter and although David Alan Jones came close to scoring a fifth with a near post effort that passed just wide it was the visitors who scored next with 9 minutes remaining as Tim Nunnerley got free of the home defence and reduced the arrears still further to give the scoreline a look that flattered the visitors.

Glantraeth: Gareth OJ Roberts, Emyr Rowlands, Darren Jones, Llion Davies, Sion Parry, Paul Tilbury (Osian Pritchard 63), Rob Williams, Chris Saxon (Jonathan Peris Jones 45), Gerallt Jones (David Alan Jones 61), Gareth Wyn Roberts, Paul Rowlands
