Bala went away with the three points despite being second best for much of the ninety minutes, the win coming courtesy of a 53rd minute penalty awarded by referee M.Trigg for what looked minimal contact between Richard F Owen and Marc Griffiths that saw the big Bala forward go to ground all too readily.
Playing against a strong wind Glan made the better first half chances making the early running with a 17th minute rising drive from Rob Williams after Jonathan Peris Jonesís free kick had been partly cleared. The visitors replied with a shot from Warren Duckett that passed wide then a snap shot from Neil Fisher led to a comfortable save from Gareth OJ Roberts.
Bala were repeatedly over-hitting long balls that were running away in the wind and making life comparatively easy for the Anglesey side.
A testing cross from Gareth Wyn Roberts on the half-hour mark was met by Peris Jones whose header was cleared off the line and the same player went close five minutes later meeting a Paul Rowlands cross only for Bala keeper Marc Nicolson to save well at full stretch. Within a minute the keeper was in action again saving from Wyn Roberts after good play from Sion Parry.
Parry was soon involved at the other end blocking a shot from Neil Fisher then Emyr Rowlands came close to giving the home side the lead they deserved with a glancing header from a Richard F Owen corner kick. In the last action of the half Duckett failed to make contact as a cross passed dangerously across Gantraethís goalmouth.
Bala had another let off within a minute of the restart as keeper Nicolson completely missed his kick when trying to clear a back pass but with a goal looking certain desperately raced back and just managed to scramble the ball clear as it was about to cross the goal-line. Rob Williams sliced a shot wide a minute later as Glantraeth continued to pose the greater threat then came the controversial penalty, converted well by Balaís Huw Price.
The visitors now had their best spell of the game with Glan still in a state of shock. It didnít last long as Glantraeth went on to dominate the last half-hour with Paul Rowlands causing all kinds of problems on the left.
On 62 minutes Rowlands swung in a cross that was cleared only as far as Gareth Wyn Roberts who let fly from 25 yards but with the keeper beaten all ends up the ball crashed against the crossbar before passing over. Peris Jones twice came close to converting further crosses from the left before Chris Saxon three times saw shots blocked as Glan piled on the pressure. Bala were defending doggedly but also enjoying a large slice of good fortune with their keeper in all kinds of trouble with a low shot from Richard F Owen then Saxon tried his luck from distance only to see his effort pass narrowly wide.
A series of free kicks in the closing stages even saw keeper Gareth OJ Roberts race upfield to add his height to the action but Bala survived and will care little about anything other than the three additional points gained towards their promotion challenge. Glantraeth are left to reflect on just how they lost this game.
