Glantraeth 2 Gap Queens Park 0
Report by Stan Strickland

A tremendous performance for the home supporters to enjoy as Glantraeth ran out worthy 2-0 winners. The Wrexham side had won the previous meeting by five goals to one but there was to be no repeat as the Bodorgan boys set about the visitors from the off and never allowed them to settle into any kind of rhythm, playing with confidence and determination throughout.

With the strong wind behind them in the opening forty five minutes Glantraeth needed to make their advantage pay and they came close to taking an early lead as Chris Saxon brought a full length save from Gap keeper Adam McGee after six minutes then a shot from Paul Rowlands flew narrowly the wrong side of the post. The visitors could make little progress and again Paul Rowlands went close then a great effort from Sion Parry had McGee scrambling to save.

16 minutes had gone before the visitors threatened for the first time as Gareth OJ Roberts did well to push over a shot from Ricky Evans then the home side had a let-off as Ashley Wilson missed an opportunity from the resulting corner.

McGee was constantly in action at the other end making a flying save from Gareth Wyn Robertsí volley on 25 minutes. Gap were hanging on with Emyr Rowlands the next to try his luck and even defender Llion Davies got forward to fire in a tremendous drive from 25 yards but again the visitorís keeper got down well to save and the visitors had him to thank for reaching the interval on level terms.

Having not secured a half-time lead Glan had it all to do as it was their turn to face the elements after the break and they had keeper OJ Roberts to thank two minutes into the half as he made the save of the game from a Ricky Evansí free kick that skidded up high off the pitch.

After that early scare Glan set about the task with real purpose and continued to take the game to the visitors. A brilliant ball by Paul Rowlands on the hour mark gave Saxon a free run into the area only for his cross to be intercepted and the danger cleared then good play by Wyn Roberts on the left set up a shooting opportunity for Paul Rowlands whose shot was sliced and fell nicely for Rob Williams to bring another full length save from McGee.

Gap could not get a real foothold in the game, everywhere they turned there was a red shirt coming at them such was the determination of the home side. In one rare attack from the visitors Kevin Leech brought a comfortable save from OJ Roberts but it was soon Glan on the attack again and they finally got their reward on 76 minutes. Paul Rowlands was again instrumental in creating the chance playing the ball to the far post where Wyn Roberts did well to lob the keeper and find the top corner.

The points were finally wrapped up six minutes from time as a through ball cut open the Gap defence and found Rob Williams who showed all his experience to calmly lay the ball off for Wyn Roberts to slot home.

There was one scare in the final minute of normal time for the Anglesey side as Ashley Wilson broke clear with Glantraeth appealing for offside but OJ Roberts was out quickly to clear. The four minutes of added time was played out with Glan stroking the ball around at will much to the delight of the home fans.

Glantraeth: Gareth OJ Roberts, Emyr Rowlands, Darren Jones, Llion Davies, Sion Parry, Richard F Owen, Rob Williams, Chris Saxon, Paul Tilbury, Gareth Wyn Roberts, Paul Rowlands (Gerallt Jones 81).
