League Cup Quarter Final
18 March 2006
Guilsfield 1 Glantraeth 2

After the previous weeks Challenge Cup exit Glantraeth looked to get back to winning ways in this quarter final cup tie in the Cymru Alliance League Cup. Manager Paul Whelan welcomed Darren Gowans in and also back in contention after not playing since January was prolific goalscorer and ex Porthmadog player Richard Hughes.
Kevin Roberts was on the bench and unavailable were Rob Williams, Craig Roberts. This was not going to be an easy cup tie against two sides who have Cymru Alliance title ambitions with Guilsfield currently in third spot and Glantraeth in fifth place with a number of games in hand on all the other clubs above them. This however was a tough cup tie and it took a goal in each half from Richard Hughes to help Glantraeth into the Semi Finals and a tie on neutral ground against Llandyrnog United. Hughes struck the first inside the second minute and scored the second following a break midway through the second half to give the Bodorgan boys a two goal cushion. Guilsfield stepped up the pressure in the second period and had several good chances including one that hit the crossbar. Nigel Barry also forced a brilliant save from the home keeper Barton. The Anglesey visitors held firm with an excellent defensive display after Tim Nunnerley pulled one back for Guilsfield. Final score 1-2
