Glantraeth 2 Llanfair PG 2
Report by Stan Strickland

Although Llanfair had the better of the first half action both keepers were virtually redundant until the game sprung to life five minutes before the interval. A good build up involving Richard Owen and Chris Saxon created the chance for Gareth Wyn Roberts to turn his marker and give Glantraeth the lead. Two minutes later a trip by Emyr Rowlands on Neil Hughes led to a penalty for the visitors only for Kevin Roberts to drill his spot kick against a post.

It looked as if Jonathan Peris Jones might add another for the Bodorgan boys on 43 minutes as he lobbed the ball over keeper Ben Heald only for Jason Harvey to clear off the goalline. With the half-time whistle approaching determined play by Peris Jones set up the chance for Wyn Roberts to put Glan two up with his eleventh goal of the season.

The action was now fast and furious as Llanfair pulled a goal back two minutes into the second period as Richard Owen volleyed home from close range as the Glantraeth defenders stood appealing for offside.

Glanís Paul Rowlands threw in a great cross on 63 minutes that was just out of reach of substitute Alan Jones but four minutes later the visitors had fought back to level as an unmarked Simon Giddings headed home from a well delivered corner from Jason Harvey.

Both sides were looking to win the game and Glantraeth went close on 78 minutes as good link up play between Paul Rowlands and Emyr Rowland ended with a cross that Alan Jones met at the near post but his shot flew wide of the goal. Harvey and Owen brought good saves from home keeper Gareth OJ Roberts then a free kick from Alan Jones dipped just too high as the action switched from end to end.

With time almost up Llanfair substitute Kevin Frazer was not far off target then a great saving tackle from Chris Williams prevented Paul Rowlands breaking clear as Glantraeth threatened to pinch it at the death.

Glantraeth: Gareth OJ Roberts, Emyr Rowlands, Darren Jones, Llion Davies, Rob Williams (Paul Tilbury 52), Richard Owen, Paul Rowlands, Chris Saxon, Gerallt Jones, Gareth Wyn Roberts, Jonathan Peris Jones (Alan Jones 60).
