Glantraeth picked up three more valuable points against a well organised Penrhyncoch outfit, in a game played in stamina sapping conditions with a strong sun beating down. Two early Kevin Roberts goals and an individual effort from the boot of top scorer Richard Owen proved to be the difference between the two sides. Penrhyncoch did reply in the 22nd minute when Tony Jones beat the offside trap and showed a clean pair of heals to Nigel Barry before slotting past keeper Dave Ball.
Both teams played nip and tuck football in the opening stages of the game, but it was Kevin Roberts who opened the scoring for the Bodorgan boys with a simple tap in following a good cross from Richard Owen. Owen himself then forced a good save from visiting keeper Daniel Pritchard. Ben Foligno of PEN then found some space but placed a header wide of the upright. The home side then went further in front following a corner when Rob Williams picked out Kevin Roberts who scored with a sweet half volley from nine yards out. Richard Owen almost added a further goal but after forcing Pritchard into another fine save from the resulting corner he then headed another chance straight at the Penrhyncoch custodian. On 22 minutes Penrhyncoch pulled a goal back with Tony Jones beating the offside trap and showing Nigel Barry a clean pair of heals before beating Dave Ball with a good finish. Glantraeth immediate response was to go up the other end of the field where Richard Owen scored an excellent individual goal to make it 3-1. Penrhyncoch reciprocated by Gornall finding Josh Jones with a good pass to force Dave Ball into a good save. Gornall himself then tried his luck from a free kick that rose just over the crossbar. In the dying moments of the half Richard F. Owen picked out Warren Gibbs who headed across the face of gaol finding Richard Owen and once again Pritchard was up to the task tipping over the crossbar.
The second half saw Pen come out and almost pull another goal back but Tony Jones was wide with the chance on 50 mins. Kevin Roberts then nearly claimed his hat-trick with a good effort. Before Mark Gornall forced Ball to dive full length to push his shot around the post. Chris Evans then forced Pritchard into another good save and was wide of the post with a further chance a couple of minutes later. Kevin Roberts then trying for the illustrious hat-trick then scooped a good chance over the bar and Chris Evans did likewise as Glantraeth applied a bit of pressure with twenty minutes remaining. Not a lot of further action occurred for the remainder of the half as the hot conditions took their toll. With five minutes left Paul Rowlands saw two very good chances go begging but in the end Glantraeth were good value for the result on the day.
