High expectation after two away wins turned to disappointment as Glantraeth went down 3-1 to Mynydd Isa.
Playing with a strong wind at their backs Glan pushed forward from the off with Gareth Wyn Roberts firing in a shot that found the keeper well positioned after 3 minutes.
In their first attack Isa took the lead five minutes later as Anthony Williams powerfully drove in following a corner on the left. Jonathan Peris Jones brought a flying save from Isa keeper Ryan Roberts on 11 minutes then Wyn Roberts pulled his shot wide after creating an opening as Glan continued to have the greater share of play but once again the visitors were lethal with their finishing as Williams again scored on 15 minutes to make it 2-0, heading home a Chris Boulton cross.
Kevin Roberts shot wide then just failed to reach Nigel Barry’s cross for the home side but Isa’s more economical but effective style of football was suiting the conditions and despite Glantraeth’s territorial advantage the Denbighshire side looked dangerous every time they pushed forward.
Playing into the elements Glantraeth came close on 55 minutes as a 25 yard volley from Emyr Rowlands was only just off target only for things to get worse for the Anglesey side on 63 minutes as a long punt upfield caused indecision in the home ranks and Brett Jones was able to steer the ball into an empty goal.
Try as they might it was proving difficult for Glan to prise open the Isa rearguard, now playing with a great deal of confidence, the closest coming on 73 minutes as Kevin Roberts went close with a header from a Richard F Owen free kick then Roberts was the provider for Chris Saxon to get in a header that was comfortably saved. Home keeper Gareth OJ Roberts saved well from Isa substitute Thomas Williams with six minutes remaining as the game seemingly headed for its inevitable conclusion.
With Isa staff already congratulating each other on the sidelines the game suddenly sprung to life and came so close to having a sting in the tail for the visitors. With a minute of normal time remaining Paul Rowlands cut in from the right and rifled a left foot shot into the net to pull a goal back. As the game entered added time a Paul Rowlands cross found the Isa defence all at sea, the ball finding Gerallt Jones at the back post completely unmarked only for him to head just the wrong side of the post with the goal gaping. Isa had now lost much of their composure and Gerallt Jones had another great opportunity in the 93rd minute as he was through one-on-one with Ryan Roberts only for the keeper to force him wide and rescue the situation.
